New 3 part series – lose weight for life

Do you know what you’re eating? In part 1 of our ‘Lose Weight For Life ‘ Program, we will look at what we eat and when.  Join us and step on the road to a diet-free life.

We lose weight when we begin to become self-aware of what we are eating and why, because often, we aren’t eating to just satisfy hunger.   By doing this we can see where and when we use food as something other than a good hearty meal to sustain us in our daily activities.  By becoming aware of why we make the food choices we do, we’re taking the first step on the road to a diet-free life.  The only way to do this however, is to question ourselves and our motivations with complete and 100% honesty.

So this week, in part one of this free Lose Weight in 3 Weeks Program, I would like you to keep a food diary. You can download one here, or make your own on a piece of paper with 5 columns – for the date and time; what you ate (how much and a description); location and setting (where you were and who you were with); how you felt at time (happy, hungry, sociable, tempted, bored etc); how you felt afterwards (satisfied, craving something sweet, over-full etc).

Many people find it hard to keep a food diary, but in order for it to work you must commit all of your efforts and be honest with yourself.  It really is a case of what you put in, you will get out of it so the more detail you can add at the time, the better.

So,

  • Be completely honest about what you eat. You are the only one who needs to see the food diary, so do not ‘forget’ to add in items you have eaten.
  • Fill it in just after you have eaten.  Keep it on you, and be disciplined. Don’t leave it until the end of the day and try and fill it in by recall because it will not be nearly as effective or serve its purpose over the next 3 weeks.
  • Be truly honest about your feelings. This is the hardest part, particularly when we are confronting ourselves. But stick with it, be brave, and really explore your feelings because no matter how painful they might be, this is the first step to regaining control over food and your diet, and the first step to putting positive changes in place.

Next time: In part 2 of the free Lose Weight For Life Program, I will show you how to analyse your food diary and identify your subconscious habitual patterns with food.  So join me next week.

I am here to help, so if you have any questions please drop me an email, and if you struggle to keep a food diary at any point over the next week, get in touch and together we can solve any problems and step on the path to a diet-free life.
